Gallifrey by Ardariel Gallifrey by Ardariel
Before you go down on me like a ton of bricks for this not being canonical Gallifrey (and I fear it is far from that), hear out my explanations, please, will you?

So I was wondering what Gallifrey might look like before it was destroyed. What it was like to live under an orange sky.
What Tardis might've looked like before its chameleon circuit got it locked in the shape of a police box. What a Time Lord's battle (or I dunno, just official) attire could look like. I was wondering about these things and just scribbling around. This is what I came up with. It is not, technically, fan art as such. So please, dear whovians, no offence or anything, 'k?

No, I have not watched "Utopia", "The Sound of Drums" and "Last of the Time Lords" episodes yet (I was told we get to look at least at the Citadel in one of those?). So I have no idea what it all really should look like. And I don't really want spoilers in the comments (although I really do want comments), thank you so much. =)

upd:
Dear whovians, after receiving the comments I have received from you here, I have to say that you are amazing. Or even fantastic. Everything all of you have said here is so touching, so inspiring. I think I will have to go cry a little from happiness over how awesome you are.

upd-2:
Since so many people seemed to like this version of Gallifrey, I decided I should put some more effort and thinking in this work. Hope you do not mind having this revised version.

gah, Gallifrey is such a beautiful planet! I think you portrayed it very well in this fantastic piece of artwork.

The Gallifrey citadel seen in the new series seems, to me, to be unfairly bland and uninspired... it's a few generically sci-fi towers in a snow globe. This looks much grander to me.

I don't care if it's not canon, it's still amazing :D Can I post this on Facebook with a link to your account?

Lovely! Yeah, it doesn't resemble the Capitol over much BUT it could be Olyesti or Mancipia or any of the other cities on Gallifrey (all of which have completely forgotten the names of =P) very nice!

The only "wrong" is the TARDIS ship (going by Name of the Doctor), and you can always say at some point some model of them looked like that. No muss, no fuss.

I Want Gallifrey Back, Damnit.

A wonderful interpretation of Gallifrey, better in fact than the new TV portrayals of it.
The ship speaks to me of a time just before TARDISes when they were still using ships, the figure also, youthful but old looking out onto the Citadel.
I also love the little inclusion of the red grass in the foreground and the fog in front of the citadel.

I don't see why your version can't count as much as the one solitary city that's been shown a few times on the series. Even if this is meant to be the Capitol, the Time Lords were around for a "billion" years- even a stubborn society like theirs had to change and rise and fall many times over the millenia. For all we know, that's Rassilon or Omega standing on the cliff. ;)

Great work. :)

OMG I love it better that the canonical Gallifrey! It look more epic, more regal, more Time Lord City... I don't know, I just love it so much. It is obvious you put some thinking in it, and I love it!
